Leading Labour politician Nick Brown will be guest speaker at the Group's April meeting. Nick is a former government chief whip and agriculture secretary. Although not a minister at the moment, Nick is widely known to be a close ally of Gordon Brown and has been tipped by commentators to be a key player in any future (Gordon) Brown government. He will give the GAG audience a tour d'horizon of the current political scene and set out his own view of the future direction of the Government.
Dick Fedorcio, Director of Public Affairs and Internal Communication for the Metropolitan Police, will be guest speaker at the May meeting. Since Dick took up the post in 1997, the Met has had to deal with the London Nailbomber, anti-capitalist riots, the Paddington train crash, and, of course, the Tube and bus bombings and Stockwell shooting of July 2005. Dick will be talking on 'Crisis management, public affairs and the Metropolitan Police'. There can surely be few posts in public affairs that present more of a crisis management challenge than the one Dick has held for the last 10 years.
