CIPR GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS GROUP PRESS RELEASE

Release: 5 September 2006

“CIPR GAG Launches Inaugural Annual Lecture: Lord Ashdown"

The CIPR Government Affairs Group has announced that the speaker for its inaugural annual lecture will be Lord Ashdown of Norton-sub-Hamdon. The lecture will be given by the former Leader of the Liberal Democrats and UN High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 17th and will deal with Lord Ashdown’s experience in that country. He will cover the topic, “Nation building after war – winning the battle for public opinion.” The evening lecture will be given at the prestigious LEWIS Media Centre on Millbank, with a drinks reception to follow.

Chairman of the Group, Robert Khan said:

“I am delighted that Lord Ashdown has agreed to deliver the first Government Affairs Group Annual Lecture. The idea of launching an annual lecture came out of the recent ‘root and branch’ review by the GAG Committee of all its activities and is a key part of taking the Group to the next level. Lord Ashdown will be of particular relevance to the Group due to his status as a respected statesman during his time as Leader of the Liberal Democrats and more recently as UN High Representative. His experience of nation building after war - and his views on winning the communications battle in that context - will be of keen interest in the current political and diplomatic climate”.

The evening lecture is open to all but entry is by ticket only which can be obtained from CIPR GAG Honorary Secretary Louisa Stevens at louisa.stevens@ecca.org.uk or 020 7220 9598.
