Committee Members

The Government Affairs Group executive committee consists of a chairman, two vice chairmen, an honorary secretary, an honorary treasurer, a membership secretary and six ordinary members of the committee. The committee is elected annually at the Group's AGM in March or April, although there is some scope for additional co-options.

Keith is Head of Policy and Communications at the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). He was elected Chairman of CIPR GAG in April 2008. He is a former Secretary and Treasurer of CIPR GAG.

Elizabeth Brogan is senior policy officer at the National Landlords Association, the leading membership association for private landlords. She represents the interests of NLA members and the wider private rented sector to external organisations and works closely with policy officials to influence the debate on a number of issues related to private rented housing. Elizabeth began her career working for senior Labour MPs. She has worked in a range of roles in consultancies and in-house public affairs.

Jon is Assistant Director of Media Relations at the Association of British Insurers. As well as running the ABI's media relations team, he leads its communications work on pensions and life insurance issues, working closely with senior policy advisers to influence Government thinking through media channels. He is a member of the CIPR Council and joined the GAG Committee at the start of 2006. In September 2006 Jon was appointed CIPR Liaison Officer for the Committee.

George is a political communications professional currently working as Manager of the Liberal Democrats' Political Information and Communications Section. He was previously Senior Political Adviser to the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Party, and before that senior speechwriter and head of research to the Rt. Hon. Paddy Ashdown, during his time as party leader. He has been a member of the Government Affairs Group Committee since 2003 where his activities include acting as editor-in-chief of this website.

Steve is Genzyme’s first Policy and Government Relations Director in the UK and Ireland, where one of the world’s leading biotech companies employs over 1000 people. He also holds the Special Advisor record for most government departments, having worked as chief of staff to John Reid MP in the Home Office, Defence, Health and Northern Ireland and as Leader of the House and Party Chairman between 2001-06. Between 1997 and 2001 Steve worked in Millbank on many successful new Labour campaigns and was the chief press and broadcasting officer for the 2001 election. Steve was a journalist with ITN, Dow Jones and HTV before working for the Blair government. He has been a member of the CIPR since 1998, joined the GAG committee in 2008 and has a particular interest in CPD.

Robert Khan MCIPR

Robert Khan MCIPR is the Head of Parliamentary and Public Affairs for the Commission for Social Care Inspection, the national regulator of social care. A qualified barrister, he has also worked at the LGA, as an adviser to the Labour Party in local government and, before that, as the Public Affairs Manager for London Councils. He has been a member of the Government Affairs Group since 2002 and is the Deputy Chairman of the CIPR's Professional Practices Committee. He is the immediate past Chairman of the Group.
