The Government Affairs Group executive committee consists of a chairman, two vice chairmen, an honorary secretary, an honorary treasurer, a membership secretary and six ordinary members of the committee. The committee is elected annually at the Group's AGM in March or April, although there is some scope for additional co-options.

He served on the CIPR Board for a full three-year term and remains a member of the CIPR Council. He joined the GAG Committee at the start of 2006.

Gavin Ellwood is Director of Ellwood & Atfield, leading recruitment company for public affairs, government relations and communications in a political and regulatory context. He has nearly 15 years search and selection experience and has been a member of the Government Affairs Group since 2001. Gavin has a wealth of experience working for a large and diverse group of organisations in the private, public and voluntary sectors to advise and assist in the hiring of government relations expertise. Previously he worked as Manager of the Liberal Democrats' Political Intelligence and Communications Section, and before that as Senior Political Adviser to the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Party, and lead speechwriter to the Rt. Hon. Paddy Ashdown, during his time as party leader. He is also a professional speechwriting trainer. He has been a member of the GAG Committee since 2003.

Over the last 16 years Simon has worked in aircraft communications at BAE Systems, in Public Affairs for the construction industry and in local and national politics. James has nearly a decade of experience in consultancy and in-house roles, and has advised some of the UK's largest companies and organisations. He co-founded Insight Public Affairs in early 2006, and has spearheaded projects in the Health, Pharmaceuticals, Education and Social Enterprise sectors. Previously James was responsible for Public Affairs at the British Retail Consortium, where he grew his particular knowledge of London Governance running the London Retail Consortium. His public affairs experience spans local, national and international environments, and his current activities include advising political, commercial, charity and other not-for-profit organisations. Simon McVicker

Simon has been Head of Public Affairs at the PCG, the voice of freelancing, since January 2009. Before that he headed up public affairs at the Manufacturing Technologies Association and previous to that he was Public Affairs Manager at The Independent Schools Information Service. Simon worked for two years in the 1980s as research assistant to Christopher Chope MP and then worked at Conservative Central Office, running the Conservative Collegiate Forum in its early years. He was a team leader in John Major’s Campaign Team at the 1992 General Election. He was also a Councillor in the London Borough of Ealing from 1990 to 1994 and on the Conservative Candidates' list from 1990 to 1995.
