Review: The Journal of Communication Management
The Journal of Communication Management has acquired a new Editor in the shape of Magda Pieczka. Having someone new in charge can mean change but if you are a regular reader you will be pleased to know that the journal is as rigorous and stimulating as ever. Professor Anne Gregory, the former Editor and public relations expert, has taken on the role of Editor-in-Chief. This ensures continuity in subject matter and style.
Volume 10, Number 4 of the journal covers a variety of topics. The article that might be of most interest to communications professionals dealing with Government is Tony Jacques’ “Activist ‘rules’ and the convergence of issue management”. However, even articles that do not deal directly with government relations or public affairs lay out principles of best practice in communications and public relations that can be applied to one’s job.
While an academic journal, the writing is accessible. Each piece is peppered with references to other writers. Thus those unfamiliar with public relations theory can use the journal as a launch pad for more detailed reading.
What the journal does so well is to act as a thought incubator by setting out case studies and using research data in a fresh and relevant way.
The journal is published by Emerald – www.emeraldinsight.com
